How does this plugin work?
In this section of WP Smart Links Review, I am going to give you a quick look at exactly why every marketer needs a system like WP smart links. Now we all know social media sites are important and we also understand that being able to share affiliate links and promotional links on those social media sites is essential.
But the social media sites won’t let us share all the links that we want to sites such as jvzoo, warriorplus,… Their links are often banned by sites like Facebook. For this example, I’m going to use Facebook Messenger but it’s exactly the same when you’re posting links on your facebook profile or other people’s pages as well.
All I’m gonna do is paste in my quick message and a link for someone that I’m sending a link to on facebook messenger, and then click on send. There we go straight away, it pops up with a message saying you can’t share this link. Your message couldn’t be shared because the link goes against their community standards.
We also cannot share a promotional link for jvzoo for a product that we like. We can’t share that link either as a private message or on other people’s pages or even on our own profile. Now, as a marketer that is a problem. That’s where WP Smart Links comes into play.
I am in my WordPress admin area smart links is already installed and among the add link page, all I’m gonna do is pop in the URL, give it a name, click on the grab OGP data from the primary URL and that will fill in extra bits down here such as the title, the description and an image as well.
The Open Graph Protocol (OGP) is a set of instructions or rules intended for highlighting the title, description, URL and the image of a website you are sharing via social platforms. The main purpose of OGP is to integrate the highlighted content and show it on Facebook, as well as to control its appearance on how the highlighted content will be shown. You can manually enter the information below or you can grab the details, if available, from the primary URL by clicking the button below. Once entered you can see how the OGP will look from the OGP preview created.
Right down the bottom, we have in Advanced Settings. You have the option to put in a tracking pixel. This is not just some link redirect, it’s a complete bridge page where you can have a pixel that pings when people click on this link so you can track the they have actually clicked on this link.
Once you have done, click on Publish button to save that link. That takes a second or two and that’s it. We now have a new smart link.
So I’m going to simply click on copy to copy that link and head back to Facebook messenger. Now we can simply paste in that new smart link, click on send… bingo, that worked. Facebook hasn’t banned that link because it doesn’t know it’s a jvzoo link. It will end up going to exactly the same page but it has a bridge page in the middle, so it disguises the link but still gets the prospect to the page that you want to send them to.
Let’s have a look and make sure it can do it on Facebook pages themselves. You can see the comment has posted without Facebook banning that URL. You can see it’s picked up the image in the description from a smart link. That’s how powerful smart links are.
As a marketer, you need to be able to share your affiliate links, your promotional links on social media sites like Facebook. WP smart links allows you to do exactly that and a lot more. By appending a Sub Tracking ID to your smartlink you can further refine your stats and see which advertising method is generating the clicks, without the need for creating separate smartlinks for each method.
For example if you want to see how your smartlink is performing on Facebook and Twitter then you could append /facebook and /twitter to your smartlink, like this:

In the stats reporting for your smartlink you would see the overall clicks it generated and then also the breakdown of how many of those clicks were from Facebook and Twitter.
